DAL SC Wayman 1966 Y Pictorial History of St. Louis by Norbury L. Wayman.
DAL SC Lossos 1999 G Pictorial St. Louis (Index to) - the great metropolis of the Mississippi Valley: a topographical survey drawn in perspective, A. D. 1875. Dave Lossos, 1999. Privately printed. Pictorial St. Louis is both a brilliant, artistic feat and a baffling definition of "Who's Who" in St. Louis in the year 1875. As to whether your ancestors are listed or not seems based largely on what profession they were in, or their social status. Schools and churches are richly identified, yet cemeteries are seldom noted. My index contains about 5400 entries. Click here for this Index.
DAL SC Dry 1979 O Pictorial St. Louis - the great metropolis of the Mississippi Valley: a topigraphical survey drawn in perspective, A. D. 1875. - Dry, Camille N. St. Louis: Knight Publishing, 1979. "A Harry Hagan Book".  This is by far the most definitive work of this time period in St. Louis history. It's almost magical how this level of detail could have been accomplished in 1875. Some of the drawings almost look photographical. This is the second (at least) reprint of the original 1875 Atlas. It is now out of print.
DAL HC Dry 1997 Y Pictorial St. Louis - the great metropolis of the Mississippi Valley: a topigraphical survey drawn in perspective, A. D. 1875. - Dry, Camille N. St. Louis: McGraw-Young Publishing, 1997. 215 pages, hard bound, oversized, on acid free paper. This is by far the most definitive work of this time period in St. Louis history. It's almost magical how this level of detail could have been accomplished in 1875. Some of the drawings almost look photographical. This is the third (at least) reprint of the original 1875 Atlas. It is now out of print, and I've been told (repeatedly) that the publisher has no intentions of another run. I've also been told that the only place left to obtain this book is at the Missouri Historical Society (and they have limited quantities left). A little pricey at $55, but well worth it. Lipsitz 1991 Sidewalks of St. Louis: Places, People, and Politics in an American City by George Lipsitz. University of Missouri Press, Columbia, Missouri 65201. The copyright date is 1991. This one contains no genealogical information but conveys the author's complete obsession with St. Louis. He isn't even a native, but his admiration comes through in every chapter of this selective treatment of St. Louis history. He lived in St. Louis from 1963 to 1982 and now is Professor of Ethnic Studies at the University of California, San Diego. Leaving St. Louis was an absolute pain for him. That is obvious on reading his book. Reviewed by Christian Mentrup, Kansas City, Missouri.
