FLYNN – On Friday, Jan. 20, 1899 at 4:45 a.m., Mary Flynn, beloved daughter of Mrs. Mary Flynn (nee Oates), aged 5 years 3 months.  The funeral will take place Sunday, 22nd inst. Ten Are Listed as Wounded, Two are Captured and Two are Safe.

Two men from the St. Louis area today were reported killed in action, one was killed in a plane crash in India, and one died in a German prison camp. Three were listed as missing in action, two were prisoners of war, 10 were wounded, and two who had been listed as missing were reported safe.


DEAD

Lt. William G. Frazier, Jr., 21 years old, an Army pilot of a Black Widow night fighter plane, was killed in a plane crash in India April 17. He was the husband of Mrs. Shirley Frazier, who lives with his parents at 420 North Dickson avenue, Kirkwood. Lt. Frazier's father is a trust officer at the St. Louis Union Trust co.

Pfc. James W. Kessler, 19, member of a tank unit, was killed in action April 7 in Germany. His parents, Mr. And Mrs. Albert M. Kessler live at 3855 Flad avenue.

Pvt. William J. Shea, 23, infantryman was killed in action March 17 on Mindanao. His wife, Mrs. Janet W. Shea, and mother, Mrs. Emma Shea live on Route 2, Collinsville.

Pfc. Howard E. Stegall, 20, infantryman, who was previously reported missing in action since Oct. 14 in Italy, died Oct 16 in a prison camp in Italy, his aunt and uncle, Mr. And Mrs. Bernard Stegall, 2707A Henrietta street, have learned. His parents, Mr. And Mrs. Howard Stegall, live in Bonne Terre, Mo. He held the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart.

SCHEFFER, Zeno H. age 84, of Rolla, passed away on Sunday, May 28, 2000 in Bradenton Florida where he was a winter resident since 1979; he was born in St. Louis on July 23, 1915 to the late Joseph & Angela (Grote) Scheffer; on October 12, 1937 he married Loretta Moriarity, who survives. Mr. Scheffer was a U.S. Army veteran during WWII serving as a hump pilot in the Air Corps flying over the China, Burma and India Theatre. He was a member of St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Longboat Key, Florida, the Hump Pilots Association and the Knights of Columbus, Rolla chapter. He was best known in the Rolla area as the owner & operator of Zeno’s Motel & Steakhouse.
Surviving family members of Zeno Scheffer include his wife of 62 years, Loretta Scheffer, of the home; two sons, Tom Scheffer & wife, Janet of Rolla and Jerry Scheffer of Bradenton, Florida; one daughter, Jane Schader & husband, Ken of Parker, Colorado; thirteen grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 3, 2000 at the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Rolla. Interment will follow in the Rolla City Cemetery. A visitation for family & friends will be held from 6-8 p.m. tomorrow (Friday, June 2) at the NULL & SON Funeral Home in Rolla. Memorial contributions are suggested to the St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. Cards are available at and all arrangements are under the direction of the Null & Son Funeral Home in Rolla.
