The following 1880 St. Louis Census Finding Aid is provided by Tracy Lewis of Anchorage, Alaska.

The following chart will make it a little easier to locate families in St. Louis in the 1880 census.

The LDS did a marvelous transcription of the census with an all-name index but the information given for the source quotes the NARA film number, the corresponding LDS film, and the page number. ED is not given and in most cases neither is the Ward.

Recently the LDS began including 1880 census information on their site <www.familysearch.com> so that finding family members in the 1880 census no longer requires access to their cd set.

With access to census images on Ancestry (which are listed by ED) you still have to go to the NARA website, look up the film and determine which EDs fall within that roll. Then there is a certain amount of hunting and pecking to find the ED which includes that page number since there is no description of page numbers on Ancestry's site.

I've created a list of NARA film numbers, the description (from the NARA website) of the EDs within that film and added information to include the first printed page number within each ED. Obviously this is not an all inclusive list but I have tried to include at least the first and last EDs contained on each roll of film and their corresponding page numbers. I'm hoping that this database will grow with time and participation from other list-members.

Listed below are the 1880 National Archives films with their Ward and Enumeration District descriptions according to the National Archives website.
